About Candlewood Lake Authority

The Candlewood Lake Authority is wholly dedicated to the safekeeping of Candlewood Lake.  We promote responsible recreation, conservation, and stewardship for the largest lake in the state of Connecticut.

Candlewood Lake Authority partners with the many stakeholders to advocate for Candlewood Lake including owners FirstLight Power, federal permittee Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) as well as local public officials, businesses, and residents.

Funded by equal appropriations
We benefit from local,
state and federal support

Created in 1972, The Candlewood Lake Authority is funded by equal appropriations from the five surrounding municipalities: Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford and Sherman. Each municipality appoints three representatives to serve in three year terms on the Board of Delegates. Additional funding for Candlewood Lake Authority work is generated from grants as well as the generous support of donors.
